AUSTRALIA
050S UK TOUR 2017
GAME
8 AUSTRALIA 050S VS ENGLISH COUNTIES XI 050S
AT
BARNT GREEN CC WARWICKSHIRE
WEDNESDAY
26 th JULY 2017
Well
the day where Australia 050s plays the representative group 4 English
Counties XI finally arrived. After all of the planning both here and
in OZ the game was on …….Whoops subject to weather of course as
this is England! For the first time rain was building and today the
forecast was heavy rain from 8am-12 noon then clearing. How good was
the Pommy weather man going to be?
It
was quite a unique experience being together in the open air pool at
Kenilworth at 7 am. Everyone was excited as today was the big test
and the real question was ….. if we got on, are we good enough to
win? The requisite phone calls were made and yes the full square
covers were on this premier Birmingham league ground with reputedly
the hardest wicket in the county prepared by Damon the former
Edgbaston groundsman. All was ready for this inaugural “Silver
Ashes” battle.
The
team announced for this historic English Silver Ashes encounter was
Paul Stenhouse Capt; Bob McGee; Wayne Miles; Warwick Hayes; Ross
Belstead; Gordon McGurk; Noel Raymond; Fabian Heath wkt; Peter Judd;
Steve Moore; Tim Sargent and Tim Pellen.
The
debutants duly received their baggy green caps from their Captain in
a moving ceremony. They were very proud Australian players.
The
national anthems were sung and photos taken of the little urn. After
the rain finally disappeared at 3pm it was agreed on a 35 over game
with unlimited batting but a limit of 7 overs a bowler. The
Australians made a special presentation to Damon the grounds man for
his hard working efforts.
